This was our first visit to Tavolino. We arrived before they were open for dinner, but were greeted outside by a gentleman who is apparently the owner. He graciously welcomed us and ensured we were seated and given water and bread at the table. He was very helpful on our wine selection, even bringing us tastes of two of them to help us decide. While both were very good in their own way, we decided on a Nero D'Avola/Syrah blend from Cusumano which turned out to be a very good choice.
We started with a Timballo appetizer which was one of the specials. While it was described as a souffle with zuchinni and red pepper sauce, it seemed to be more of a custard to us. Whatever you want to call it, though, it was delicious.
For dinner we had Brazino alla Griglia and Veal Saltimbocca (another special). The Brazino is a mild fish, well prepared and presented at the table whole. My wife took the option of having it brought back into the kitchen to be filleted and re-served. It had a very tasty sauce on the side . The veal was also delicious with a light sauce (seemingly with a browned butter base).
We managed to have dessert also. The desserts are all made in their kitchen. We had the Gelati Misti (three scoops of gelato - choices were chocolate, vanilla, Bailey's and Nutella) and Bonet (a very rich chocolate cake-type dessert)
The service was gracious and quick.
We were told that they will soon be moving to Campbell and Skyline in the space formerly used by Vin Table.
